Ireland are through to the women's 4x400m relay final at the European Athletics Championships in Rome.
The team of Sophie Becker, Phil Healy, Lauren Cadden and Sharlene Mawdsley won their heat in a time of 3:24.81.
Mawdsley was called up as a late replacement for Kelly McGrory who suffered an injury this morning.
Sophie Becker led the team out before handing to Phil Healy with Ireland in third place.
Lauren Cadden was making her major championship debut and subsequently kept Ireland inside the top four.
Mawdsley finished with a superb anchor leg that saw Ireland finish in first place ahead of France, Belgium, Spain and Italy.
They can now look forward to the final which takes place tomorrow evening.
Elsewhere, there was disappointment for the men's 4x400m team of Jack Raftery, Chris O'Donnell, Sean Doggett and Callum Baird.
The quartet finished in fifth-place in their heat which was not enough to reach the final.
It was a similar story for the men’s 4x100m relay team. Bori Akinola, Mark Smyth, Colin Doyle and Israel Olatunde missed out on a final despite posting a season’s best time of 39.34 seconds.
