Ireland will look for some revenge and their first win under Heimir Hallgrímsson against Greece on Tuesday night.
Greece return to the Aviva Stadium for the first time since last year where Greece recorded a 2-0 win, in UEFA EURO 2024 qualifying campaign.
Heimir Hallgrímsson came under some heavy media fire, having not attended the pre-match press conference. This is a requirement under UEFA regulations, where the FAI revealed they requested an exception.
Assistant Head Coach John O'Shea faced the media and looked to move on quickly from the England defeat.
“The beauty of having a game a few days later gives everyone the chance to bounce back as quickly as possible and improve performances and improve everything about the performance.
“That's the key bit for us, if you improve the performance levels hopefully that will eventually bring consistent results in our favour”.
“Make sure we are hard to beat and then we go win some matches on the back of that” added O’Shea.
Ireland have never beaten Greece
The 2-0 defeat to England on Saturday meant Ireland have lost each of their last three competitive home games. Ireland have never previously lost four competitive home matches in a row.
However, the pre-game stats don’t get any better for the Irish team. Ireland have never beaten Greece in five previous attempts (D1, L4).
The only European nation the Boys in Green have come up against more than twice without ever tasting victory.
Whereas, Greece have won all three of their previous away games against the Republic of Ireland without conceding. Their most recent meeting in October 2023, a European Championship qualifier. Which Greece won 2-0.
Ireland captain Seamus Coleman has returned to his club following an injury sustained in the second-half against England on Saturday. Festy Ebosele has been called into the squad for the Greece match tomorrow night.
