Mickey Graham isn’t taking anything for granted as the Breffni men look to progress in the Taitleann Cup.
Cavan won their Tailteann cup opener with some comfort in the end. Cavan winning out 2-20 to 1-14 over Laois in Kingspan Breffni.
A trip to Ruislip comes this Saturday and victory over London would secure progress to at least the play-off stage.
However, Cavan didn’t have it all their own way against Laois. In fact the visitors led for the opening 20 minutes.
“The first game after you get knocked out of the championship was always a tough one” declared Graham. Not unhappy about his sides opening performance.
“Even when I was playing; that first game when you went into the qualifiers it was all about getting the momentum going again”.
“It was all about getting the result today and getting back on the horse and getting the Armagh game behind us” added Graham. “Now we are just looking forward.
Dara McVeety and Conor Madden were both absent from Graham's match-day squad. The Cavan boss appeared to rule out seeing either in London.
“We decided after the Armagh game that the lads carrying a few knocks during the campaign, we’d give them some time”.
“Its three weeks since the Armagh game” explained Graham, "so another two week’s would give it five weeks. So we’d hope to have them back for the end of the group stages”.
Round Two trip to London
Heading to London who lost their opener to Offaly 2-14 to 11 points with Cavan head high. While bleeding new comers and some returning names hints at confidence, Graham was quick to play this down.
“When you’re involved with Cavan football you can never take anything for granted” declared Graham. “The days you expect to win are the days you lose. The days you expect to lose you win”.
“London will have no fear. The last day, they could have shocked us, last year, so we need to treat them with respect as we treat everyone else”.
