The AIG Women's Open is also part of the proposal.

The Government is exploring the prospect of hosting the Open Championship and AIG Women’s Open at Portmarnock Golf Club.

Negotiations are set to take place between the R & A and Portmarnock GC this summer. A positive economic impact assessment is also required.

Indeed, the tournament returns to the island of Ireland in 2025. Royal Portrush will host it for the third time.

The Antrim course previously hosted the tournament in 1951 and 2019. The latter was won by Ireland's Shane Lowry.

The 2026 edition of the tournament will be held at Royal Birkdale. However, no plans have yet been made for the forthcoming years.

Indeed, an Open Championship at Portmarnock would mark the first time it was held outside the United Kingdom.
