Monaghan advanced to round three of the Ulster MFC qualifiers after beating Down 5-13 to 0-12 at Pairc Esler in Newry.
The Farney men laid a solid foundation in the first half and led 3-4 to 0-5 at the break; Max McGinnity scored two goals while Eoghan McFarland also found the net.
Eoghan McFarland scored his second goal within a minute of the restart and DJ McElvaney added a fifth Monaghan goal 11 minutes later to make it a 14-point game.
Monaghan with a flourish and hit four of the last six scores to run out convincing winners while also knocking Down out of the Ulster championship.
