The Monaghan hurlers have two wins from as many games in the Lory Meagher cup following a 5-12 to 3-11 victory over Louth at Darver.
Monaghan started better and led 1-5 to 1-2 on 15 minutes. Thomas Hughes found the net for Monaghan four in while Mark Gahan replied with a goal for the hosts three minutes later.
Gahan added his second goal from a penalty on 26 minutes only for his effort to be cancelled out by Hughes two minutes later as Monaghan held on to led 2-7 to 2-6 at half-time.
Louth s restored parity four minutes after the restart when Sean Kerrisk found the net but Mark Treanor replied with a goal for Monaghan to make it a four-point game 11 minutes later.
Hugh Byrne registered their fourth goal with 15 minutes remaining leaving six points between the sides. Ten minutes later, Louth’s Darren Geoghegan slotted over a point and suddenly, it was back to a four-point game.
Pauric Malone sealed victory with Monaghan’s fifth goal in injury time as they finished with seven points to spare and are now in second place in the Lory Meagher cup table.
