Derry booked their place in the Dr. McKenna Cup semi-final making it two wins from two over Down.
Mickey Harte’s side scored a 13 points to 10 victory over Down on Saturday evening. As Derry had already beaten Cavan, they now win section B and advance to the semi-final.
Cavan will travel to Esler Park on Wednesday evening to meet Down. The winner will take second place and be awaiting results elsewhere to make the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, Donegal made it two wins from two edging out Tyrone, 0-15 to 1-10 at a fog-engulfed O’Neills Healy Park.
The win see’s Donegal win section A with four points. Armagh face Tyrone on Wednesday evening. Armagh will need a big win having lost by 16 points in their opening game, if their too make the semi-finals.
Elsewhere, Fermanagh got their first win of the new season by holding off Antrim on a 1-10 to 1-9 scoreline.
Antrim led 1-6 to 1-2 at half-time, but Fermanagh fought back in the second-half to claim victory and join Monaghan at the top of Dr. McKenna Cup section C.
Monaghan and Fermanagh meet on Wednesday night in Brewster Park. A draw would see the Farney men progress as group winners, having a better score difference.
