Davy Fitzgerald has stepped down as Waterford senior hurling manager.
The Clare native had been in charge for the past two-years and had another year remaining on his three-year term. However, he has decided to now step away.
In a statement issued to the Irish Examiner; Fitzgerald thanked his backroom team, along with county Chairman Sean Michael O'Regan and wished everyone involved with Waterford GAA every success in the future.
Fitzgerald returned for his second stint in charge of the Déise for the 2023 season, However, they failed to progress from the Munster championship in that campaign or this year's.
On the football front, Donegal are now been mentioned as possible All-Ireland champions.
Indeed, the Ulster champions reunited with manager Jim Mc Guinness at the start of this season. The Glenties man managed Donegal to the All-Ireland in 2012.
Speaking on Sportsbeat on Monday night, former Leitrim goalkeeper Martin McHugh remarked that the "Jimmy's winning matches" belief had returned.
