Cootehill Celtic were crowned Cavan senior hurling champions for a third successive year after beating East Cavan Gaels 2-19 to 3-14 in the decider at Kingspan Breffni.
Cootehill led 1-13 to 2-6 at half-time and held on for a two-point victory in the end.
The defending champions made a blistering start and led 1-6 to 0-2 on 13 minutes. Mark Moffett with the game’s opening goal five minutes prior.
Gaels were making a maiden final appearance and they eventually settled into the game.
Rory Farrell’s goal on 14 minutes made it a four-point game. The sides were level six minutes later, when Nicholas Kenny found the net.
The sides subsequently traded two points each before four successive scores gave Cootehill a four-point cushion at half-time.
East Cavan Gaels started the second half impressively. James Tully’s goal six minutes into the second half saw them draw level.
Thomas Leonard’s goal on 41 minutes gave Cootehill a three-point cushion. Seven minutes later Jack McGuinness brought it back to a two-point game.
The sides traded three points each thereafter as Cootehill held on for a narrow victory.
