Monaghan star Conor McManus is set to announce his retirement from inter-county football.

The Clontibret clubman hinted that time was up following the 0-14 to 0-11 defeat to Galway. The result saw Monaghan exit the All-Ireland championship.

“It’s something that will becoming sooner rather than later” McManus explained after the Galway defeat.

“There is no secret that there’s not much sand left in the clock as they say” added McManus. “We’ll see, we’ll see, yeah. It’s something I suppose, where time waits for no one”.

However, McManus appeared to confirm his days in the Monaghan jersey were over. “I’ve loved every minute of it, if that is to be it. I don’t know for sure yet”.

“I owe Monaghan football everything, there some of the best supporters around and yeah, it has been a privilege”.

McManus made his debut for the Farney men in 2007. He went to represent his county for an incredible 18 seasons.

During his career, he won two Ulster titles, two league titles and three All-Star awards.

Whereas, McManus won his first Ulster title in 2013 and was instrumental as the Farney men ended a 25-year wait for a provincial crown.

Indeed, his total of three All-Stars is the most by a Monaghan player ever; with only Nudie Hughes equaling that total.
