Clare Cryan has won Ireland’s first ever European Championship diving medal.
Cryan took bronze on the 3-metre springboard to take bronze in Belgrade.
Cryan’s medal follows Danielle Hill’s gold in the 50-metre backstroke. Hill etched her name into the Irish swimming history books posting 27.73 seconds in the Women’s 50 backstroke final.
Hill’s became the first Irish female to strike gold in a senior European Championships (50m) in 27 years. It is also the first European Championship medal in a long-course pool since Shane Ryan’s bronze in 2018.
On Friday, Hill and Lottie Cullen both qualified for the 100-metre backstroke final with respective second place finishes in their semi-finals.
Whereas, Ellie McCartney had to settle for eighth in the final of the 200-metre breaststroke. But, her fourth place finish in the 200-metre individual medley semi-finals saw her qualify for that final.
