Cavan will vote against their proposed removal from the national hurling league.
The proposal is aimed at allowing further development of the game in those counties. The affected counties are Cavan, Fermanagh, Leitrim, Longford and Louth.
The Cavan county board have told Northern Sound Sport, they will be voting against the CCCC motion.
Cavan hurlers withdrew from the Allianz League between 2012 and 2017. A number of factors including playing squad numbers, caused Cavan’s withdrawal.
However, Cavan gained promotion to Allianz hurling league 3A in 2023. In many quarters, this has been seen as justification of Cavan county board’s decision to withdraw; as it allowed Cavan hurling redevelop.
The hurlers also made the final of the 2021 Lory Meagher Cup, suffering defeat to Fermanagh.
Cavan co. board PRO Susan Brady said, “We’re voting against this proposal as we want to support our senior hurlers and management team and the great efforts they have made.
“We have plans which we are working through to develop hurling clubs across underage and senior level, which we’ve been making good progress on”.
Speaking to Northern Sound sport, Longford County board advised they would make a decision on the motion on Thursday November 23. Their next county board meeting.
While Leitrim county board advised the motion will be discussed at their next county board meeting ahead of the CCCC meeting in December.
The proposal has been met with heavy criticism from players in the affected counties, who have cited lack of engagement.
