Cavan suffer heavy defeat to Dublin

Cavan have two defeats from as many games in the All-Ireland series.

Cavan suffered a second straight defeat in the All-Ireland series and were totally outclassed by Dublin at Kingspan Breffni.

Dublin were eight points clear at the break and found another gear in the second half to win out 5-17 to 0-13.

The sides were tied at four points each 19 minutes in. Oisin Brady (two) Liam Brady and Oisin Kiernan on target for Cavan.

Paul Mannion edged Dublin in front on 22 minutes. 60 seconds later Cormac Costello’s goal gave Dublin a four-point cushion; 1-5 to 0-4.

Paddy Small extended Dublin’s advantage to five points on the half-hour mark. Oisin Brady replied for Cavan within 60 seconds.

Dublin’s second goal arrived on 32 minutes courtesy of Paddy Small. Brian Fenton added another point on the stroke of half-time where Dublin led 2-9 to 0-7.

Dublin made a blistering start to the second half. Cillian McGuinness scored from the throw-in pushing Dublin 11 points clear.

Cormac Costello added another point on 40 minutes. Two minutes later Sean Bugler found the net giving Dublin a 16-point cushion.

Cavan subsequently landed three scores on the trot. Oisin Brady chipped in with two points with Cian Madden also on target.

Paddy Small halted Cavan’s momentum on 53 minutes. Two further scores from Colm Basquel made it a 16-point game.

Dublin were awarded a penalty deep into injury time. Cormac Costello found the net bringing his tally to 2-5 as Dessie Farrell’s men ran out convincing winners.
