Cavan sit on top of Allianz football league division four following a 19 points to 1-12 win over Carlow at Kingspan Breffni Park.
Mickey Graham’s men led 0-11 to 0-9 at the half-time break before recording a four-point victory despite finishing with 14 men.
The opening stages were evenly contested and the sides were tied at three points each on six minutes; Gearoid McKiernan (two) and Thomas Galligan were on target for Cavan.
Two minutes later, points from Patrick Lynch and Cormac O’Reilly moved Cavan two points clear and the hosts held on to lead by the same margin at the break.
Cavan made a better start to the second half and four successive scores gave the Breffni men a six point cushion on 53 minutes.
Five minutes later, a goal from Carlow’s Niall Hickey made it a four-point game before Cavan’s Thomas Galligan was sent off with eight minutes remaining.
Cavan suffered no detriment despite being a man down for the closing stages and held on for a four-point victory.
The Breffni men now have three wins from as many games and currently sit on top of division four despite having played one game less than second-placed London.
