Cavan set to embrace the Tailteann cup

The new competition was officially launched in Croke Park

Following on from the opening draw for the Tailteann Cup yesterday Cavan will have home advantage on Saturday the 28th of May when they host Down in Kingspan Breffni. Throw in time for that fixture is expected to be confirmed by the CCCC over the coming days. Cavan will enter not only that game as favourites but also to win the competition out right. While the build up to the start of this competition has been divided in regards to it been a 2nd tier championship Killian Clarke noted at the launch in Corke Park it would be a competition they will take seriously

The format of this years Tailteann cup is straight knock out with the winners progressing to the quarter finals where they will remain in their Northern and Southern groups with it an open draw for the semi finals. GAA president Larry Mc Carthy remarked that both the competition and cup are worth winning
