Cavan are currently top of Allianz football league division three after beating Longford 1-19 to 0-11 at Kingspan Breffni.
The hosts deserved to win convincingly having never trailed at any stage of the contest.
Longford’s Joe Hagan made it a one-point game on 16 minutes. The visitors subsequently went ten minutes without scoring.
Cavan capitalised and amassed 1-4 during that period. Oisin Brady finding the net on 25 minutes.
Eight minutes later David Brady pushed Cavan nine points clear before two successive points saw Longford make it a seven-point game at half-time; 1-9 to 0-5.
Six minutes after the restart, Longford’s Joe Hagan was sent off. Nine minutes later, Conor Madden pushed Cavan eight points clear.
Cian Madden and Liam Connerton subsequently traded a point each before Gerard Smith gave Cavan a ten-point lead nine minutes from time.
The same margin separated the sides heading into injury time before Cavan’s Conor Madden sealed a comfortable victory right at the death.
