Cavan reached the Tailteann cup quarter-finals following a sweet 16-point victory over Offaly at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.
Mickey Graham’s men led 1-11 to 1-4 at half-time before a dominant second-half display resulted in a 2-25 to 2-9 victory.
Offaly started impressively and raced into a two-point lead as early as the fifth minute when Anton Sullivan found the net.
11 minutes later, Graham's side led by the same margin thanks to points from Gearoid McKiernan (two), Ciaran Brady and Paddy Lynch.
Brandon Boylan found the net eight minutes later. Suddenly, the Breffni men were five points clear.
Offaly’s Anton Sullivan reduced the margin to four points on 32 minutes before three unanswered points gave Cavan a seven-point cushion at the break.
Paddy Lynch pushed Cavan eight points clear four minutes into the second half. Offaly fought back to make it a five-point game within as many minutes.
Cavan subsequently found another gear. Points from Lynch (two), Boylan and Oisin Brady saw the breffni men move nine points clear on 51 minutes.
Four minutes later, Cavan received another major boost. Dylan Hyland and Jack McEvoy were both sent off leaving Offaly with 13 men.
Cian Farrell ended Offaly’s 20-minute barren spell six minute from time but the Faithful county were still ten points down.
Five minutes later Boylan registered his and Cavan’s second goal. The Breffni men were now 13 points clear.
Cavan ran out convincing winners after hitting six injury-time points. Offaly’s Joe Maher registered a late goal but it was a minor consolation in the end.
The result sees Cavan reach the Tailteann cup quarter-finals after finishing top of the group one table.
