Cavan finished their Allianz football league division two campaign in disappointing fashion with a four-point defeat to Fermanagh at Kingspan Breffni.
Fermanagh claimed a deserved victory. Having led by five points at the break, the Ernesiders won out 2-14 to 1-13.
Fermanagh settled into the game faster and led 0-2 to no score inside five minutes. Garvan Jones with both scores for the visitors.
Paddy Lynch has been Cavan’s scorer-in-chief throughout the league, the Crosserlough man slotted over two pointed frees making it a level game on 13 minutes.
Jones registered four points during the first half, his third doubled the visitors’ advantage on 25 minutes.
Indeed, Sean Cassidy found the net on the half-hour mark helping Fermanagh to a five-point cushion at the break; 1-6 to 0-4.
Joe McDade gave Fermanagh a seven-point lead four minutes into the second half. Two minutes later, Cian Madden brought it back to a six-point game.
Fermanagh soon found another gear Garvan Jones finished to an empty net on 43 minutes as the visitors moved nine points clear.
Cavan responded impressively however. Points from Tiarnan Madden and James Smith were followed by a Paddy Lynch goal resulting in a four-point game.
The comeback was short-lived however. Fionan O’Brien restored Fermanagh’s six-point cushion on 52 minutes.
Cavan’s Cormac O’Reilly made it a three-point game on 62 minutes. Jones restored Fermanagh’s two-point cushion two minutes from time.
60 seconds later, Cavan’s Paddy brought his tally to 1-8. Garvan Jones equaled that tally and the Fermanagh forward sealed a four-point win with the final score of the night.
