Cavan secured a win in their first outing in Allianz Hurling League Division 3 seeing off Sligo 1-17 to 1-12.
Ollie Bellew’s team made a strong start building up an eight points to four lead after 24 minutes.
Sligo equalised through an Andrew Kilcullen goal on the half-hour mark. However, points from Liam O’Brien saw Cavan take in a two-point lead half-time.
Indeed, Canice Maher’s goal six minutes into the restart helped them go on and record an opening five-point victory.
Elsewhere, the day’s other Division 3 clash saw London edge Wicklow 1-18 to 1-17.
In Emyvale, Louth cruised to their second win in Division 4 handing hosts Monaghan an emphatic 2-23 to 11 point defeat.
