The Cavan hurlers missed out on a place in the Lory Meagher cup final after losing 2-19 to 2-18 to Leitrim at Kingspan Breffni.
The game was a tight affair throughout. Cavan led by the smallest of margins at half-time; 2-8 to 2-7.
Canice Maher and with the goals for Cavan while Martin Feeney and Gavin O’Brien scored a goal each for the visitors.
Gavin O’Hagan gave Leitrim a five-point cushion on the hour mark before Diarmuid Carney restored parity one minute into injury time.
A Cavan winner would have taken them into the final, but it was the visitors who grabbed the last score to claim just their second win of the campaign.
The result sees Cavan finish in third place. Monaghan and Lancashire will contest the final after finishing first and second respectively.
