Cavan made a losing start to the Ulster MFC following a 3-17 to 1-15 defeat at the hands of Tyrone at Healy Park in Omagh.
Eoin McElholm's goal on four minutes saw Tyrone led 1-7 to 0-7 at the break and the hosts doubled the margin within a minute of the restart when Charlie Donnelly found the net.
Noah Grimes registered Tyrone's third goal with nine minutes remaining before Cian Keaney replied with a goal for Cavan a minute later making it a four-point game.
Tyrone finished strongly by hitting five of the last six scores resulting in an eight-point defeat for the Breffni men.
