Goals proved crucial as Cavan ladies fell to a first defeat of Lidl League campaign.
As the race for promotion heats up in the Lidl League division 3, Cavan ladies were looking to leave Bunclody with their 100% record intact.
Unfortunately, they got off to a poor start, Wexford’s Ailish Neville found the back of the net after just three minutes.
The Breffni responded well with Aishling Sheridan, Shanice Fitzsimmons and Lauren McVeety getting the away side back to level terms.
Sheridan remained sharp, keeping the scoreboard ticking over for Cavan which meant they led by a point at the break.
Grace Donovan added Wexford’s second goal 14 minutes into the second-half to put real pressure on the division three leaders.
Sheridan got the Breffni back within one point. However, points from Chloe Foxe and Aoife Cullen made things very difficult for Cavan going into the closing stages.
Aishling Gilsenan did pop over a Cavan free kick late on but it wasn’t enough as Wexford claimed the points, and make the push for promotion very exciting.
Wexford scoring a 2-5 to nine point victory.
