Cavan ladies fall into relegation play-off. A last gasp Ciara McAnespie goal saw Monaghan retain their All-Ireland senior ladies football status as Monaghan stole a 1-13 to 14 point win over Cavan in Kingspan Breffni.
Cavan controlled the game for the majority with Lauren McVeety (2), Aisling Gilsenan (3), Niamh Keenaghan giving Cavan a six points to three lead at the first water break.
A Gilsenan free plus points from Aishling Sheridan and Geraldine Sheridan gave Cavan a five point half-time cushion nine points to four.
Four Aisling Gilsenan points including two frees and one from McVeety seemed to do enough for Cavan to secure victory but a last gasp Ciara McAnespie goal handed Monaghan a two point victory.
Cavan now fall into the relegation play-off series where they will face Tyrone on August 21/22 with the winners staying in senior football and the losers meeting in a relegation final on August 28th.
