The Cavan hurlers got off to a bad start in Allianz hurling league division 3B after losing 1-20 to 0-13 to Fermanagh at Ederney.
Fermanagh laid a solid platform for victory in the first half leading 1-16 to four points at the break; Francis McBrien finding the net on 21 minutes.
The Breffni men made a resurgence in the second half with James Smith very much to the fore but Cavan still came up short in the end.
