Cavan Eagles’ moved 12 points clear at the top of MissQuote.ie women’s division one after beating second-placed Portlaoise Panthers 57-47 at the Virginia Show Centre.
Eagles led 10-5 at the end of the first quarter before a superior second-quarter display gave the hosts a 12-point lead at half-time.
Dave Barker’s side won the second quarter 24-17 resulting in a 34-22 lead at half-time but Portlaoise Panthers made a big improvement during the third quarter.

Portlaoise dominated the scoring exchanges after the restart and out-scored the hosts 13-9 during the third quarter but still trailed 43-35 heading into the final period.
The final quarter was a tight affair. The Eagles won it 14-12 and finished the game with ten points to spare.
