Cavan remain on top of Allianz football league division four after beating Sligo 1-13 to 0-10 at Markievicz Park.
The hosts led 0-6 to 0-2 at the half-time break before a dominant second-half display saw Mickey Graham’s men record a six –point victory.
Cavan took 19 minutes to get off the mark; Gearoid McKiernan fisted the opening score and four minutes later, Raymond Galligan levelled the game at two points each.
The Breffni men were playing against a strong breeze and the conditions were reflected on the scoreboard as Cavan failed to score for the remainder of the half.
Sligo finished the half strongly and points from Sean Carrabine (two) and one each from Niall Murphy and Patrick O’Connor left Cavan four points down at the break.
Two minutes into the second half, Sligo were down to 14 players as David Quinn was shown a straight red card.
The decision seemed to galvanise the Cavan men who landed five of the next seven points leaving a solitary point between them with 15 minutes remaining.
Cavan moved two points clear with seven minutes remaining, albeit in bizarre circumstances; Paddy Lynch's long-range effort was poorly dealt with by Sligo goalkeeper Alan Devaney and the ball ended up in the net.
The Breffni men finished with a flourish hitting six of the last eight scores. The result leaves Cavan on top of the division four table and two points clear of second-placed London.
