Cavan camogie side miss out on All-Ireland final

Laois claimed victory in their last four encounter at Ashbourne.

The Cavan camogie side missed out on All-Ireland Premier Junior final appearance following a six-point defeat to Laois.

Laois led by seven points at the break and held on for a 2-16 to 3-7 victory at Ashbourne.

Cavan made a blistering start. Roisin O’Keefe found the net inside 60 seconds.

Laois responded impressively however. Aimee Collier scored 1-1 as the Leinster outfit got their noses in front two minutes later.

Collier pushed Laois five points clear on 20 minutes. Three minutes later Aideen Coyle made it a four-point game.

O’Keeffe added another score 60 seconds later before Laois replied with 1-1 in injury time.

Clodagh Tynan’s goal was followed by a point from Collier as Laois led 2-8 to 1-4 at the half-time.

Cavan started the second half impressively. Scores from Shanise Fitzsimons and Niamh Keenaghan made it a five-point game two minutes into the second half.

Collier restored Laois’ seven-point cushion on 40 minutes before Cavan responded with two quickfire goals.

Firstly, O’Keeffe found the net on 44 minutes, Emma Plunkett added another goal 60 seconds later. Cavan still trailed 2-10 to 3-6.

The comeback was short-lived however. Laois responded with six successive scores making it 2-16 to 3-6 heading into injury time.

Shanise Fitzsimons registered a late point for Cavan. However, the Breffni side still suffered a heavy defeat.
