Castlerahan needed extra time to get over Lavey in the quarter-finals of the Hotel Kilmore Cavan senior football championship winning by 3-13 to 21 points.
The reigning champions made the brighter start to the game and a goal each by Cormac Daly and Oisin O’Connell saw them lead 2-6 to eight points at the halfway stage.
The Ballyjamesduff men held a three-point lead at the second water break and were forced to play out the most of the fourth quarter with 14 men after Fergal Reilly received a black card.
Lavey had to do without Gerry Smyth who came off injured but raised their game nonetheless and a late point from substitute Peter Smyth forced extra time making it 2-10 to 16 points.
A third Castlerahan goal from Ronan Flanagan early in the second half of extra-time put two points between them but Lavey weren’t finished yet.
A great score from Chris Conroy reduced the gap to a single point and he subsequently missed a free from distance to level the game.
Castlerahan advance to the semi-final stages but only by the skin of their teeth.
