Carrickmacross Emmets GLC and East Cavan Eagles basketball club have each received €5,000 from the Texaco Support for Sport.
Sports clubs from the across the country when invited to apply for a €5,000 grant per county.
31 sports clubs where award the grant with Carrickmacross Emmets GLC getting the Monaghan award. The Cavan award went to East Cavan Eagles basketball club.
The break down per sport saw four soccer clubs, three basketball and three camogie. While two tennis clubs and two Gaelic football clubs received grants.
The remaining 12 grants where given to clubs stated as; Handball, Cricket, Kayaking, Gaelic games, Hurling, Athletics, Sub-aqua, Bowls, Hockey, Rugby, Gymnastics and Archery.
There was no award given to a Carlow club as the organisers s”tated no eligible applications were received”.
“We would like to congratulate the winning sports clubs and also acknowledge every club that submitted an eligible application to us under the scheme” the organisers said in a statement. “Each had a viable case for winning an award in an effort to fulfil their potential more fully and remain active and at the very heart of their local community”.
“It is our intention to return with another Texaco Support for Sport initiative in late Autumn so please visit our website then for information as any participating club that has not won an award in our initiative to date will be eligible to apply again”.
