In the Ulster Intermediate Hurling championship, Castleblayney just came up short to Middletown in their quarter final meeting losing out to the Armagh champions by 2-18 to 18 points on Saturday night. It was better news for Carrickmacross as they claimed a first ever provincial win with an extra time 2-23 to 3-16 victory over Ballela of Down in the Junior championship.Two goals from Malachy Magee helped Ballela to a two point lead at the second water break before a strong final quarter saw the Monaghan side force extra time. Goals from Niall Bermingham and Michael Maguire helped Carrickmacross to a four-point victory while Jonathan McCusker scored a late consolation goal for the Down men .
