Callum Devine and Noel 'O Sullivan were the winners of the opening round of the Triton Showers National Rally championship hosted by the Midlands motorclub yesterday in Longford. The Volkswagon Polo R5 crew had 10 seconds to spare over the Ford Fiesta of Matt Edwards and David Moynihan with the defending champions Josh Moffett and Andy Hayes completing the top 3 in their Hyundai I20. Devine set the fastest time on Stage one and maintain his advantage for the remainder of the 8 stages with Edwards and Moffett been involved in a battle for the runner up spot which the overseas visitor eventually claimed. Darren Gass (Citreon C3) and Sam Moffett (Hyundai) completed the top 5 with Gary Kiernan and navigator John Mc Cabe on been the best of the modified crews taking an excellent 6th overall in their Mark 2 escort. Jack Mc Kenna and Damian Doherty claimed the Junior honours in their Honda Civic. The Rally was also the opening round of the Sligo Pallets Border championship.
