Butlersbridge claimed a maiden Cavan intermediate football crown today following a 1-12 to 0-14 win over Ballyhaise at Kingspan Breffni Park.
Ballyhaise led 0-8 to 0-7 at the half-time break before a superior second half saw Butlersbridge run out one-point winners in the end.
Butlersbridge made the brighter start and led 0-6 to 0-2 on 16 minutes but Ballyhaise restored parity 12 minutes later after hitting four unanswered points.
Ballyhaise subsequently got their noses in front at the half-time break after hitting two of the next three scores.
A strong third quarter gave Butlersbridge a narrow advantage as Cathal Leddy’s goal on 34 minutes helped make it 1-10 to 0-11 at the second water break.
Ballyhaise responded impressively and a point each from Brian O’Rourke and Kevin Tierney resulted in a level game with 12 minutes remaining.
Butlersbridge finished the game stronger and grabbed two of the last three scores to win by the smallest of margins. It’s the club’s first ever title at intermediate level.
