Cavan powerlifter Britney Arendse smashed her personal best three times as she finished seventh in the 73kg class at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.
She had never lifted more than 102kg before the Games, but today she managed weights of 103kg, 104kg, and finally 107kg.
"I had no idea that I would get the three PB's, one PB and a bonus medal maybe but I got the three PB’s instead and that’s even bigger," she said afterwards.
"106 (kg) was what was decided weeks ago. 107 (kg) was decided literally seconds after I came off the stage. We didn’t think we’d get it but we just said go for it you know."
Mariana D'Andrea took gold managing a lift of 137kg ahead of China's Lili Xu who claimed the silver medal with France's Souhad Ghazouani taking bronze.
