Ballyhaise claimed their first win of the Cavan senior football championship beating Gowna 3-9 to 0-17 at Ballinagh.
Martin Conaty scored Ballyhaise’s first goal five minutes in making it a two-point game. Scores from Conor Casey and Aaron Brady levelled the game four minutes later.
David Brady registered Ballyhaise’s second goal on 13 minutes. Six minutes later Michael Brady added another as Ballyhaise led 3-3 to 0-5.
Aoghan Waters made it a nine-point game on 24 minutes before Gowna replied with three successive scores.
Tiarnan Madden chipped in with two points while Cian Madden was also on target but Ballyhaise still led 3-5 to 0-8 at the break.
Gowna started the second half strongly; Robbie Fitzpatrick halved the deficit within five minutes of the restart.
Gowna continued their rally. Cian Madden followed up with two more scores making it a one-point game six minutes from time.
The sides traded two points each thereafter as Ballyhaise prevailed by the smallest of margins.
