Ballybay are through to the semi-finals of the Greenfield Foods Monaghan Senior Football Championship thanks to a 2-9 to 0-14 win over Iniskeen today.
The game was evenly contested throughout as Iniskeen trailed 1-5 to six points at the interval and the goals proved crucial for Ballybay who got one in each half.
Thomas Kerr was on target in the first half with Paddy O’Neill finding the net shortly after the break. Both sides finished the game with 14 men but Ballybay reached the last four nonetheless.
Elsewhere, reigning champions Clontibret had to settle for a third successive stalemate after their home game against Donaghmoyne finished 2-11 apiece.
Donaghmoyne showed no ill-effects from last week’s heavy loss to Ballybay in the early stages and a goal from Ronan McDonald helped them to a five point lead after 20 minutes.
The home dominated the opening half but somehow found themselves behind by 1-7 to 1-6 at half-time.
Pauric Boyle struck for a goal for the away side midway through the second-half before Liam McDonald scored Donaghmoyne’s second goal of the day and the sides were inseparable at the final whistle.
