Athlone Town go in search of the Women’s FAI Cup for the first time when they meet Shelbourne on Sunday.
Over 4,000 tickets have been sold for Sunday's 2023 Sports Direct Women's FAI Cup Final in Tallaght Stadium. The push is on to surpass last year's record attendance of 5,073.
Indeed, Dana Scheriff leads the Athlone line, fresh from winning the EVOKE.ie Golden Boot in the SSE Airtricity Women's Premier Division. Rising star Katie Keane is between the posts for Athlone.
Whereas, Athlone are looking for their first Women’s FAI Cup win, Shelbourne are looking for their third.
Meanwhile, Shels can call on several players with winner’s medals. Including captain Pearl Slattery, midfielder Rachel Graham and forward Noelle Murray. Along with exciting youngsters Hannah Healy and Rebecca Devereux. Shels last won the cup in 2022.
It will also be a special day for the trailblazers of the competition who featured in the first three Cup finals. Meanwhile, records have been updated, recognising the 1972, 1973 and 1974 finals as being the first in the competition's history.
Indeed, over 100 players and officials involved in those finals are expected to be in attendance in Tallaght Stadium on Sunday as special guests. Click here to find out more.
