Monaghan got life in the 2021 Allianz league to a losing start as Armagh scored a 1-16 to 1-12 victory in Brewster Park.
Stefan Campbell converted an early penalty as Armagh charged into a 1-3 to no score lead after seven minutes.
Monaghan got motoring however with Rory Beggan sending over a free two minutes later before Monaghan cracked Aramgh open for a Sean Jones goal on 14 minutes.
Armagh led by one at the break 1-6 to 1-5 and introduced both Conor McManus and Darren Hughes for the second half.
The sides traded scores in the game’s third quarter with Monaghan responding to Armagh on six occasions to see the game at 1-11 a-piece.
Armagh had more to offer in the final quarter with points from Rian O’Neill (free), Conor Turbitt and two from Rory Grugan seeing them home.
Micheál Bannigan pulled one back for Monaghan but it was Armagh’s day winning out by four points 1-16 to 1-12.
