Recovery Education is the topic of the fifth episode in the Stories of Recovery Podcast series.
The podcast, which is live from today, January 7th is part of a series which focuses on local stories of hope and recovery in Cavan and Monaghan.
Stories of Recovery Podcast Series is a collaboration between Mental Health Ireland and HSE Cavan Monaghan Mental Health Service as part of the Connecting for Life Cavan Monaghan Strategy to reduce suicide in our communities.
The series is running over seven months, airing an episode each month addressing different aspects of recovery from adversity and mental health challenges.
It is widely recognised that sharing the personal narrative and lived experience of recovery from adverse events in life offers hope and inspiration to those who may be going through something similar. It has been shown to promote help seeking behaviour and encourage people to reach out for support when needed.
In Episode 5 of Stories of Recovery Podcast is about Recovery Education, Miffy Hoad, Development Officer with Mental Health Ireland for the Cavan Monaghan area, is in conversation with the Peer Educators from Innovation Recovery College, Lorraine, Johanna and Eunice and the Co-ordinator Kevin Curran.
Recovery Education is an adult education approach to mental health recovery.
The courses are co-designed by the peer educators and also with qualified health professionals, and in some instances the courses are delivered with both peers and qualified professionals.
The courses are interactive and provide a space for personal growth and deeper insight to the self.
