Today is the start of Pride Month. A month which raises awareness and celebrates the LGBTQ+ community.
Dublin Pride has launched a number of events which can be found on their website, and there is the local Rainbow Youth service that is there for anyone who may need to reach out or discuss anything relating to LGBTQ+ issues in the region.
However, as far as Ireland has come it is important to remember that it is still hard for many to accept their sexuality and come out to friends and family.
Domhnaill Harkin is from Donegal and he says he didn't come out until he was 23 because not only did he not understand how he was feeling but up to that point being gay was demonised to him and he didnt want to be gay.
However, he is now proudly himself and hopes to encourage others to be able to come out and be themselves.
