Oram named winner of prestigious national award. Known as the "Community Oscars"; for a village to win the national Pride of Place Award is no mean feat! Indeed, that is what the County Monaghan village of Oram did this year.
Additionally, as well as Oram winning, this is the first time Monaghan County Council has hosted the prestigious awards.
Over 100 community and voluntary organisations, representing 35 local authorities, attended a gala dinner at the Hillgrove Hotel on Friday night. The council took this opportunity to showcase the Peace Campus in Monaghan Town. Delegates also visited the Garage Theatre to see a production of Pat McCabe's new play. Louise Rooney works at Oram Community Development Association and she told Zoe Tunney what was involved in Oram named winner.
