The Monaghan Volunteer Centre is encouraging people of all ages to kick-start your New Year in the best way possible, by offering a helping-hand to your local community.
The centre located in Monaghan Town provides information and support for people who want to volunteer and for groups recruiting new volunteers.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Sinead Keenan from Monaghan Volunteer believes bringing together people with an interest in volunteering and groups that need new people to get involved is at the "core" of what the centre is all about.
She also believes that giving people something to focus on, particularly during the month of January, is extremely beneficial to the mental health and well-being of so many people who may be struggling.
"Volunteer Ireland have actually done some academic studies on this and it's been proven that volunteering is good for both physical and mental health - It is no surprise to anyone who has been involved with it," she told Northern Sound.
"Time and time again we hear from volunteers... how much they enjoy it and what a positive feeling it gives them to give something back to their community. It's great to get out and meet new people and try new things and it really is about finding a volunteer role that is right for you and that you will enjoy.
