Cavan County Council is still waiting on a response to a letter they sent to the Department of Health back in March requesting respite care for children with additional needs in the area.
Back in spring, Cllr McVitty invited three people working and living with children who have autism and other additional needs to speak to the chamber, explaining what it is like providing round-the-clock care to children with additional needs. After their "emotional" presentation, every councillor agreed to make representations to the Department of Health of the local families' behalf.
A letter was duly written to Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children but to this day, neither Cllr McVitty, the Council, nor any of the families desperately waiting for respite accommodation for their children, have received a response. Cllr McVitty told Zoe Tunney all about the regrettable situation:
A spokesperson from Cavan County Council told Northern Sound today that "Following a request made by the elected members, Cavan County Council will again write to the Minister's office, outlining the councillors' desire for a meeting with the Minister."
