Today marks 40 years since Kieran Doherty was elected TD for Cavan and Monaghan.

The 25 year old was on hunger strike in the Maze Prison at the time and was one of two anti-H Block TDs elected.

Their election and that of Bobby Sands in Fermanagh earlier that year, are seen as garnering support behind the campaign and laying the foundations for Sinn Féin's support in this region.

Former Cavan Councillor Charlie Boylan was Doherty's election agent and ormer TD Caoimhghín Ó'Caoláin worked as Director of Elections.

He's been speaking to Eddie Butler about it and Eddie began by asking him how he came to be involved:
