A plan to populate crayfish in a lake on the Fermanagh-Monaghan border has been halted because of issues with water quality.

The CANN Project, (Collaborative Action for the Natura Network), which works to protect the cross-border environment was working to make the Magheraveely/Kilrooskey lake cluster a population hotspot.

However, in recent years the lakes have lost their clarity and now show signs of pollution and aglae bloom.

Ulster University is a partner in INTERREG VA funded CANN project and their part of the project is looking at water quality and biodiversity of fresh water lakes in the project area.

Dr Joerg Arnscheidt is a senior Environmental Science lecturer at Ulster University, he has been spoke to Aaron McElroy and began by giving some background on the ecology of the lake cluster.
