World Wetlands Day was celebrated on the 2nd of February and as everyone knows in this region, Cavan and Monaghan are at the heart of the wetlands terrain in Ireland.
The Day itself aims to raise awareness about the vital role of wetlands for people and the planet.
This year's theme was 'Wetlands Restoration' and highlighted the urgent need to pritorise wetlands restoration.

The Wider View spoke to Heather Bothwell who is a geo park guide in Cavan about the importance of the wetlands locally.
And she began by describing the diversity of the system in this region.
