Under a new scheme the National Ambulance Service and Monaghan Hospital have agreed a programme that will allow for some patients to be transferred directly to the hospital if they meet strict criteria.
The programme which involves strict clinical and geographical criteria will see a small cohort of stable medical patients transferred by NAS to the local facility.
This news followed a roll out in Roscommon of a similar scheme.
Peadar McMahon who was previously the Chairman of a campaign group set up in an attempt to save the local hospital says time will tell if the new scheme will benefit the area.
Ronan Gargan has speaking to Peadar earlier following the upgrade to the Monaghan injuries unit.
