The Minister for Education, Norma Foley, is in Monaghan today for a series of engagements. The Minister is attending an event in St. Louis Secondary School to celebrate the success of students past and present and empowering women.
She attended a special assembly where girls had an opportunity to ask the government minister questions about education and her own success in politics.
The visit was part of a day of events at St Louis' celebrating and inspiring women. Additionally, it includes a wellbeing session in the afternoon and culminating in a barbecue for staff and students. Our reporter Zoe Tunney went along to the event in St Louis' today. Moreover, the minister said it was all about inspiring girls to "chase their dreams".
Meanwhile, Principal of St Louis', Margaret Conlon, believes there is much success to celebrate and it is important to recognise the girls' achievements.
Ms Conlon said she was certain pupils would take a lot out of today's meeting with the minister and days' events. Some St Louis girls told Northern Sound they take inspiration from the girls who have gone before them.
