Since 2020, in the last 4 years, 37 women have been violently killed in Ireland, this is in addition to the 25 women who tragically lost their lives through violence in the North of Ireland. Of those tragic 62 lives lost in Ireland over 50% of suspects were reported as partners or ex partners of the victim. Approx 20% were killed by a family member and nearly 90% of perpetrators were known to the victim.

According to Sinn Fein's Sinead Flynn, "Women should be able to feel safe in their own homes and in their environment." Jodie Curran spoke with Cllr Sinead Flynn about this issue which she discussed at this month's sitting of Monaghan County Council:
