Taxback is calling on the Government to abolish a rule that prevents private residential tenants from claiming the newly established rent credit, which is worth up to €500 a year for single people, and up to €1,000 a year for married couples and civil partners if their landlord is not registered with the Residential Tenancies Board (RTB).
There are nearly 5,000 tenants across Cavan and Monaghan - many of whom are loosing out because one of the conditions of the newly introduced rent credit is that in most cases, the tenancy must be registered with the RTB.
Marian Ryan, Consumer Tax Manager with Taxback, told the Wider View that there are millions of Euro in unclaimed taxes currently sitting with Revenue. First though, she began by explaining more about the rule that is preventing so many people from claiming their rent credit.
