This October, for the first time, the sacred relics of renowned 7th century Irish martyr Saint Kilian is set to return to his home county of Cavan from Würzburg in Germany.

This major religious and civic event has been described by the chairperson of the Relics Visitation Committee as very much a homecoming of the Mullagh native.

Dozens of local pilgrims and a delegation from Cavan County Council recently visited Würzburg in Germany for the annual two-week event in July called the Kiliani-Volksfest.

The major religious and civic event is being organised in partnership between the Diocese of Kilmore, the Parish of Mullagh, and Cavan County Council, and is to run from October 1st to October 6th.

It marks the first time the relics will have left Germany in 1,400 years.

Chair of the Relics Visitation Committee, Cllr Shane P O'Reilly joined Ronan Gargan on the Wider View to discuss the plans ahead of this major event.
